Nmr Sample Preparation

NMR sample preparation is the process of preparing a chemical sample for nuclear magnetic resonance analysis, where careful handling is essential for reliable spectra and accurate structural information. The sample is typically dissolved in a suitable deuterated solvent, transferred to an NMR tube at an appropriate concentration and volume, and positioned to produce a uniform magnetic environment; the deuterium signal also supports field-frequency stabilization. Proper preparation minimizes impurities, particulates, solvent interference, and concentration-related signal problems, enabling effective shimming and reproducible measurements. In chemistry, well-prepared samples support molecular identification, purity assessment, reaction monitoring, and studies of molecular structure and dynamics.

2023

Source: Laboratory of Dr. Henrik Sundén – Chalmers University of Technology Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy is a vital analysis technique for organic chemists. With the help of NMR, the work in the organic lab has been facilitated tremendously. Not only can it provide information about the structure of a molecule but also determine the content and purity of a sample. Compared with other commonly encountered techniques for organic chemists — such as thermal analysis and mass...

Sample Preparation for Analytical Characterization

Source: Laboratory of Dr. B. Jill Venton - University of Virginia Sample preparation is the way in which a sample is treated to prepare for analysis. Careful sample preparation is critical in analytical chemistry to accurately generate either a standard or unknown sample for a chemical measurement. Errors in analytical chemistry methods are categorized as random or systematic. Random errors are errors due to change and are often due to noise in instrument. Systematic errors are due to...

2012

The production of hyperpolarized xenon by means of spin exchange optical pumping (SEOP) is described. This method yields a ~10000-fold enhancement of the nuclear spin polarization of Xe-129 and has applications in nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and imaging. Examples of gas phase and solution state experiments are given.
