Microrna Detection

MicroRNA detection is the measurement of short, regulatory RNA molecules that influence gene expression and serve as indicators of cellular state, disease, and infection. Methods such as quantitative reverse-transcription PCR, Northern blotting, microarrays, and small-RNA sequencing convert sequence-specific hybridization or amplification into measurable signals, while assay design must account for the small size and closely related sequences of microRNAs. In immunology and infection research, detection profiles reveal changes in host immune responses, pathogen-associated regulation, and circulating biomarkers in blood or other samples. These measurements support studies of immune signaling, host-pathogen interactions, disease classification, and potential diagnostic development.

Quantitative Real Time polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) is a rapid and sensitive method to investigate the expression levels of various microRNA (miRNA) molecules in tumor samples. Using this method expression of hundreds of different miRNA molecules can be amplified, quantified, and analyzed from the same cDNA template.
