Murine Obstruction Model

A murine obstruction model is an experimental mouse system that reproduces the biological effects of blocked flow through a duct, vessel, or hollow organ, enabling controlled study of disease mechanisms and treatment responses. Researchers create or monitor obstruction under defined conditions, leading to pressure buildup, impaired drainage or passage, tissue stress, inflammation, and structural remodeling in the affected organ. These models support investigation of organ injury, fibrosis, immune responses, and recovery while allowing researchers to compare disease progression with therapeutic interventions. Because mice permit genetic and molecular analyses, murine obstruction models help connect physiological changes with cellular pathways relevant to human medicine.

The murine model of irreversible unilateral ureteric obstruction (UUO) is presented together with the model of reversible UUO in which the ureteric obstruction is relieved by anastomosis of the severed ureter into the bladder. These models enable the study of renal inflammation and scarring as well as tissue remodeling.

The present protocol describes a step-by-step, reproducible model of unilateral ureteral obstruction.

A Method to Induce Ocular Surface Inflammation in a Murine Model

This video demonstrates a method to induce ocular surface inflammation and meibomian gland dysfunction in a murine model. Stimulation of the mouse's immune system using an immunogen and later restimulation with the same immunogen promotes ocular surface inflammation, which causes plugging of meibomian gland secretion through neutrophil-produced aggNETs and leads to dry eye disease.

Murine Ileal Resection Model: Studying Ileectomy-Induced Bile Metabolism in Murine Model
