Electrode Guide Tubes

Electrode guide tubes are narrow, implantable sleeves that position and protect recording or stimulating electrodes during neuroscience experiments. In stereotaxic procedures, a guide tube is secured at a selected brain coordinate, allowing an electrode to pass through a consistent path and reach a target region while reducing tissue disturbance during repeated access. Researchers use these tubes for chronic electrophysiology, neural stimulation, and multi-session studies of brain activity and behavior. Their design supports stable electrode placement, controlled sampling depth, and improved experimental consistency, making them valuable for investigating neural circuits, disease-related activity, and responses to sensory or therapeutic interventions.

2015

A method for implanting electrodes into the subthalamic nucleus (STN) of rats is described. Better localization of the STN was achieved by using a microrecording system. Furthermore, a stimulation set-up is presented that is characterized by long-lasting connections between the head of the animal and the stimulator.

Source: Rachel Liu, BAO, MBBCh, Emergency Medicine, Yale School of Medicine, New Haven, Connecticut, USA Tube thoracostomy (chest tube placement) is a procedure during which a hollow tube is inserted into the thoracic cavity for drainage of fluid or air. Emergency chest tube insertion is performed for definitive treatment of tension pneumothorax, traumatic hemothorax, large-volume pleural effusions, and empyemas. Irrespective of the cause of air and fluid accumulation in the pleural space, the...

On comparing the reactivity of silver and lead, it is observed that the two ionic species, Ag+ (aq) and Pb2+ (aq), show a difference in their redox reactivity towards copper: the silver ion undergoes spontaneous reduction, while the lead ion does not. This relative redox activity can be easily quantified in electrochemical cells by a property called cell potential. This property is commonly known as cell voltage in electrochemistry, and it is a measure of the energy which accompanies the charge...
