Dmso Extraction

DMSO extraction is a sample-preparation method that uses dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), a polar aprotic solvent, to release and solubilize chemical components from biological materials for biochemical analysis. Because DMSO can penetrate cellular structures and dissolve a broad range of polar and moderately nonpolar compounds, it helps transfer target molecules from complex samples into a liquid extract. Researchers use these extracts to analyze metabolites, pigments, lipids, and other biomolecules with techniques such as chromatography or spectrometry. Careful control of sample composition, extraction time, temperature, and solvent compatibility improves recovery and supports reproducible biochemical measurements.

Extraction Extraction is a common technique used in organic chemistry to isolate a target compound. In the extraction process, a solute is transferred from one phase to another to separate it from unreacted starting materials or impurities. Extraction is also used to facilitate the isolation of a solute from a reaction solvent that is difficult to remove by evaporation, such as a solvent with a high boiling point. Generally, there are three types of extractions. First, in solid-liquid...

In this lab, you'll separate a mixture of cellulose, caffeine, and benzoic acid based on their solubilities in dichloromethane, or DCM, and water. Caffeine and benzoic acid are both soluble in DCM, but cellulose is not. Thus, in this part, you'll first dissolve as much of the mixture as...

Source: Laboratory of Jeff Salacup - University of Massachusetts Amherst The distribution of a group of organic biomarkers called glycerol-dialkyl glycerol-tetraethers (GDGTs), produced by a suite of archaea and bacteria, were found in modern sediments to change in a predictable manner in response to air or water temperature1,2. Therefore, the distribution of these biomarkers in a sequence of sediments of known age can be used to reconstruct the evolution of air and/or water temperature on...

Generating differentiated cell types from human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) holds great therapeutic promise but remains challenging. PSCs often exhibit an inherent inability to differentiate even when stimulated with a proper set of signals. Described here is a simple tool to enhance multilineage differentiation across a variety of PSC lines.
