Biomimetic 3d Conditions

Biomimetic 3D conditions are engineered culture environments that reproduce key structural, biochemical, and mechanical features of native tissues, providing a more physiologically relevant setting for studying cell behavior. In bioengineering, cells grow within or on three-dimensional scaffolds or matrices whose extracellular-matrix composition, stiffness, porosity, and spatial organization deliver cues through cell adhesion, mechanotransduction, diffusion, and cell-cell interactions. By supporting tissue-like architecture and signaling, these conditions can improve models of development, disease, drug response, and tissue repair while helping researchers evaluate organoids, biomaterials, and regenerative strategies under controlled laboratory conditions.

2025

This study presents a novel surgical technique for implanting a biomimetic artificial intervertebral disc (BioAID). The method ensures precise placement and stability, aiming to restore cervical spine function using a goat model. This technique shows promise for clinical application in both human and canine patients suffering from cervical spine myelopathy.

Biomimetic Materials to Characterize Bacteria-host Interactions

Bacterial attachment to host cells is a key step during host colonization and infection. This protocol describes the generation of polymer-coupled recombinant adhesins as biomimetic materials which allow analysis of the contribution of individual adhesins to these processes, independent of other bacterial factors.

The presented method offers an innovative way for engineering biomimetic fiber structures in three-dimensional (3D) scaffolds (e.g., heart valve leaflets). 3D-printed, conductive geometries were used to determine shape and dimensions. Fiber orientation and characteristics were individually adjustable for each layer. Multiple samples could be manufactured in one setup.

Fear Conditioning

2023

Fear Conditioning is a type of learning in which an association is established between a negative unpleasant event and a harmless stimulus. This leads to a fear of the harmless stimulus. This process is largely mediated by the amygdala, which is a brain region involved in emotions and stress reactions. Fear conditioning can be utilized in several ways to understand different aspects of learning and memory. This video presents an overview of the principles behind fear conditioning, discusses the...
