Lentiviral Core Proteins

Lentiviral core proteins are structural components that organize and protect the viral genome, making them essential for particle formation and infection. Produced primarily from the Gag polyprotein, they are cleaved during viral maturation into matrix, capsid, nucleocapsid, and related components; the capsid forms a protective shell, while nucleocapsid binds viral RNA and helps package it into new particles. Their coordinated assembly, disassembly, and interactions with host-cell factors influence reverse transcription, intracellular trafficking, and productive infection. Studying these proteins supports research on lentiviral replication, antiviral drug targets, and the design and optimization of lentiviral vectors for gene delivery.

2025

This video demonstrates the process of transducing human neuronal cells with a lentivirus encoding a mutant human tau protein tagged with yellow fluorescent protein (YFP) to study protein aggregation. It outlines the steps from viral entry to mutant tau expression, culminating in the formation of visible cytoplasmic tau aggregates in the neurons.

The Nucleosome Core Particle

2020

Nucleosomes are the DNA-histone complex, where the DNA strand is wound around the histone core. The histone core is an octamer containing two copies of H2A, H2B, H3, and H4 histone proteins. The paradox Nucleosomes, paradoxically, perform two opposite functions simultaneously. On the one hand, their main responsibility is to protect the delicate DNA strands from physical damage and help achieve a higher compaction ratio. While on the other hand, they must allow polymerase enzymes to access DNA...

Specific Marking of HIV-1 Positive Cells using a Rev-dependent Lentiviral Vector Expressing the Green Fluorescent Protein

2010

We have developed a lentiviral vector that possesses, in addition to the Tat-responsive LTR, the Rev-response element (RRE) that can regulate reporter gene expression in an HIV-1 Tat- and Rev-dependent fashion. The vector permits the specific detection of replicating HIV in living cells via the expression of GFP.
