Biochemical Composition

Biochemical composition is the identity, relative abundance, and organization of the molecules that make up a biological sample, including proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, nucleic acids, metabolites, and water. In cancer research, scientists characterize these components by extracting or separating them and measuring their chemical properties, concentrations, and molecular interactions, often comparing tumor tissue with healthy tissue. These compositional profiles can reveal altered metabolism, signaling pathways, membrane structure, and interactions between cancer cells and their microenvironment. The findings support biomarker discovery, disease classification, treatment research, and efforts to explain how molecular changes influence tumor growth and therapeutic response.

Classifying Matter by Composition

2020

Matter: Pure Substances and Mixtures According to its composition, the matter can be classified into two broad categories — pure substances and mixtures. A pure substance is a form of matter that has a constant composition throughout with uniform properties. For example, any sample of sucrose has the same composition and same physical properties, such as melting point, color, and sweetness, regardless of the source from which it is isolated. A mixture is composed of two or more types of...

Composite Scaffolds of Interfacial Polyelectrolyte Fibers for Temporally Controlled Release of Biomolecules
