Silver Chalcogenide Conversion

Silver chalcogenide conversion is a chemical process that transforms silver sulfide, silver selenide, or silver telluride into a different composition or crystal phase, enabling controlled tuning of material properties. The conversion commonly proceeds through chalcogenide anion exchange, in which incoming sulfur, selenium, or tellurium species replace the original anions within a silver-containing lattice under controlled reaction conditions; diffusion through the silver sublattice can help preserve particle morphology. This approach supports the synthesis of nanocrystals with adjustable band gaps, near-infrared optical responses, electrical conductivity, and thermoelectric behavior. Consequently, silver chalcogenide conversion is valuable in materials chemistry, optoelectronics, energy research, and nanoscale device development.

Other than maintaining genome stability via DNA repair, homologous recombination plays an important role in diversifying the genome. In fact, the recombination of sequences forms the molecular basis of genomic evolution. Random and non-random permutations of genomic sequences create a library of new amalgamated sequences. These newly formed genomes can determine the fitness and survival of cells. In bacteria, homologous and non-homologous types of recombination lead to the evolution of new...

Femtosecond-laser direct-writing is frequently used to create three-dimensional (3D) patterns in polymers and glasses. However, patterning metals in 3D remains a challenge. We describe a method for fabricating silver nanostructures embedded inside a polymer matrix using a femtosecond laser centered at 800 nm.
