Double Chamber Assembly

A double chamber assembly is an engineered structure that contains two enclosed chambers within a connected or integrated system, allowing fluids, gases, materials, or operating conditions to remain separated while interacting in a controlled way. Its design typically uses walls, seals, ports, valves, or a shared interface to regulate transfer between chambers and maintain distinct pressure, temperature, or chemical environments. In engineering research, double chamber assemblies support controlled experiments, component testing, mixing or separation studies, and evaluation of transport across barriers. By isolating variables while permitting defined exchange, they improve measurement control, system safety, and reproducibility in laboratory and industrial applications.

The analytical ultracentrifuge (AUC) sample cell holds sample and reference buffer and during experiments and is exposed to high vacuum and rotor speeds up to 60,000 rpm. This video will demonstrate the rigorous attention to detail necessary for assembly, loading and alignment of this very important component of an AUC experiment.

We present a procedure for forming a poly(ethylene glycol) self-assembled monolayer (PEG-SAM) on a silicon substrate with gold microelectrodes. The PEG-SAM is formed in a single step and prevents biofouling on silicon and gold surfaces. Electrophoresis is then used for patterning biomolecules down to the nanoscale.

Chambers of the Heart

2025

The human heart is a complex organ made up of four chambers: the right and left atria and the right and left ventricles. These internal chambers are separated by partitions known as the interatrial and interventricular septa. The exterior of the heart features a groove known as the coronary sulcus that demarcates the atria from the ventricles, while the anterior and posterior interventricular sulci distinguish between the two ventricles. Deoxygenated blood from the body is received in the right...
