Wavelength Suppression

Wavelength suppression is the deliberate reduction or elimination of selected wavelengths from an electromagnetic signal, light beam, or measurement system. In engineering, it works by using wavelength-selective elements such as optical filters, absorptive or reflective coatings, gratings, resonant structures, or interference effects that attenuate targeted spectral components while transmitting or preserving others. This control improves signal-to-noise ratio, limits unwanted interference, protects detectors from excess radiation, and enhances the performance of optical communication, imaging, spectroscopy, sensing, and laser systems. Effective suppression requires matching the device’s spectral response, bandwidth, rejection level, and operating conditions to the application.

The de Broglie Wavelength

In the macroscopic world, objects that are large enough to be seen by the naked eye follow the rules of classical physics. A billiard ball moving on a table will behave like a particle; it will continue traveling in a straight line unless it collides with another ball, or it is acted on by some other force, such as friction. The ball has a well-defined position and velocity or well-defined momentum, p = mv, which is defined by mass m and velocity v at any given moment. This is the typical...

Amblyopia is a developmental disorder of the visual cortex that is often accompanied by strong suppression of one eye. We present a new technique for measuring and treating interocular suppression in patients with amblyopia that can be deployed using virtual reality goggles or a portable iPod Touch device.

Divide the transwell system into five groups that undergo various treatments. The first group serves as the control and consists of a co-culture of neuroblastoma and microglia cells. In the second group, treat the co-culturer with fibrillar β-amyloid (fAβ) alone. fAβ induces damage in neuroblastoma cells. In the third group, treat neuroblastoma cells with an 808-nanometer laser, then co-culture them with untreated microglia. The laser reduces oxidative stress, improving neuronal survival. In the...

(2013)This video demonstrates the use of click chemistry and fluorescence microscopy to visualize nascent RNA transcription in mammalian cells. It highlights how viral infection suppresses host transcription by comparing fluorescent signals between infected and control cells.

Human In Vitro Suppression as Screening Tool for the Recognition of an Early State of Immune Imbalance

Tregs are potent suppressors of the immune system. There is a lack of unique surface markers to define them, hence, definitions of Tregs are primarily functional. Here we describe an optimized in vitro assay capable of identifying immune imbalance in subjects at risk to develop T1D.
