Lung Fibrosis Monitoring

Lung fibrosis monitoring is the longitudinal assessment of structural scarring and functional decline in the lungs, helping clinicians determine disease activity, progression, and response to treatment. It combines symptom review and oxygen assessment with pulmonary function tests, especially forced vital capacity and diffusing capacity, while high-resolution computed tomography can visualize changes in fibrotic architecture; serial measurements reveal trends rather than relying on a single observation. In immunology and infection research, monitoring helps distinguish persistent inflammatory or infectious injury from progressive remodeling and supports evaluation of immunomodulatory therapies, antifibrotic strategies, and patient risk.
