Cardiotoxicity Testing

Cardiotoxicity testing is the evaluation of whether a drug, treatment, or chemical can damage the heart or disrupt its electrical and contractile function. It combines methods such as electrocardiography, cardiac imaging, biomarker analysis, and in vitro assays using cardiomyocytes to detect changes in rhythm, cell viability, contractility, or injury. In medicine, these assessments support drug discovery, preclinical safety evaluation, clinical monitoring, and risk management for therapies that may affect cardiovascular health. By identifying harmful effects early and clarifying dose-related responses, cardiotoxicity testing helps guide safer treatment decisions and informs the development of more predictive models for cardiovascular safety.

Anxiety Testing

2023

Anxiety is a commonly observed behavioral disorder that stems from fear. It is described as increased restlessness, or unpleasant feelings of fear over anticipated events. Experimenters often use rodent models to better understand anxiety disorders in humans. They use different paradigms, like exposing rodents to bright spaces or loud sounds, which are known to induce fear. These tests combined with other interventions such as surgery or drug-administration may assist researchers in pinpointing...

Source: Roberto Leon, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA Wood is a ubiquitous material that has been used in construction from the earliest times. Wood is a renewable, sustainable material with great aesthetic value. Today, there are probably more buildings constructed with wood than any other structural material. Many of these buildings are singlefamily residences, but many larger apartment buildings, as well as commercial and industrial buildings,...

Pilot Testing

Source: Laboratories of Gary Lewandowski, Dave Strohmetz, and Natalie Ciarocco—Monmouth University In any experiment researchers have the challenge of creating experiences for participants that are consistent (i.e., reliable) and authentic (i.e., valid). Yet there are many ways to manipulate any one variable. For example, if you want participants to feel sad, you can have them think of their own sad memory, watch a sad video, or read a sad story. Researchers must find the best way to...
