Remote Catheter System

A remote catheter system is a technology that enables clinicians to control and position a catheter from a console rather than manipulating the device directly at the patient’s bedside. The system translates operator commands into precise catheter movements through mechanical, magnetic, or robotic actuation, supporting navigation through blood vessels or other anatomical pathways under imaging guidance. In medicine, remote catheter systems can assist minimally invasive interventions such as cardiac electrophysiology procedures and endovascular treatments. By improving control and potentially increasing the distance between clinicians and imaging equipment, these systems may enhance procedural precision, ergonomics, and safety while advancing image-guided therapy.

This article presents a unique closed-chest technique for inducing myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) in mice. The presented method allows mice to breathe spontaneously while remotely inducing myocardial ischemia. This provides access to the animal for studying the dynamic processes of ischemia and reperfusion in situ and in real-time via noninvasive imaging.

2023

Source: Madeline Lassche, MSNEd, RN and Katie Baraki, MSN, RN, College of Nursing, University of Utah, UT The purpose of peripheral intravenous catheter (PIV) insertion is to infuse medications, perform intravenous (IV) fluid therapy, or inject radioactive tracers for special examination procedures. Placing a PIV is an invasive procedure and requires the use of an aseptic, no-touch technique. Common IV venipuncture sites are the arms and hands in adults and the feet in children. According to...

The Measurement of Unsteady Surface Pressure Using a Remote Microphone Probe

2016

Here, we present a protocol to measure, with high spatial resolution, the unsteady surface pressure in turbulent flows. This method demonstrates the construction of a remote microphone probe (RMP) and the determination of its frequency-dependent, complex transfer function. An analytical determination of the dynamic response is presented and validated.
