Onset Program

The Onset Program is a neuroscience framework for identifying and analyzing the beginning of neural, physiological, or behavioral events, a step that helps researchers determine when a response emerges and how it develops over time. It typically examines time-resolved recordings, establishes a baseline, and detects the point at which a signal departs from baseline according to defined criteria such as amplitude, timing, or statistical significance. By providing a consistent approach to onset measurement, the program can support analysis of neural activity, sensory processing, motor responses, and event-related signals. Reliable onset estimates improve comparisons across experiments and clarify the timing of brain-behavior relationships.

Programmed electrical stimulation provides the ability to determine conduction properties of the heart, and the possibility to induce and terminate cardiac arrhythmias using various pacing protocols. Using a transvenous catheter, intracardiac electrogram recordings can be obtained in mice following programmed electrical stimulation protocols to identify arrhythmogenic substrates.

2017

A protocol for stroke onset time estimation in a rat model of stroke exploiting quantitative magnetic resonance imaging (qMRI) parameters is described. The procedure exploits diffusion MRI for delineation of the acute stroke lesion and quantitative T1 and T2 (qT1 and qT2) relaxation times for timing of stroke.

2015

Ex-Vivo Lung Perfusion (EVLP) has allowed lung transplantation in humans to become more readily available by enabling the ability to assess organs and expand the donor pool. Here, we describe the development of a rat EVLP program and refinements that allow for a reproducible model for future expansion.
