Tissue Slicer Technique

Tissue slicer technique is a method for cutting biological tissue into thin, reproducible sections, enabling researchers to examine or experiment on complex structures while preserving their spatial organization. In neuroscience, a vibrating or mechanically driven blade advances through tissue at a controlled rate and depth, producing brain slices that can retain local cellular connections and physiological properties under suitable conditions. These preparations support microscopy, immunohistochemistry, electrophysiology, and pharmacological studies of neural circuits, allowing investigators to measure synaptic activity, cellular responses, and tissue organization. The technique links intact-brain anatomy with controlled laboratory experiments and helps clarify mechanisms underlying neural function and disease.

A Technique for the Prolonged Incubation of Neuronal Tissue of the Retina

2025

This video demonstrates a method for prolonged incubation of neuronal tissue of the retina. Eyecups containing retina are obtained from a mouse eye; the inner limiting membrane (ILM) is enzymatically digested to expose the neuronal cells of the retina, and either the treated eyecup or the isolated retina is transferred to a specialized incubator for prolonged incubation at a low temperature.

We standardized an abdominal adipose tissue biopsy using a non-diathermy method performed under local anesthesia. Three cases of excessive post-operation bleeding out of 115 operations (2.61%) occurred. We conclude that an abdominal adipose tissue surgical biopsy using a non-diathermy method can be safely applied to healthy men.
