Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome

Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (NMS) is a rare but potentially life-threatening reaction to dopamine-blocking medications, characterized by severe muscle rigidity, hyperthermia, altered mental status, and autonomic instability. It typically develops after exposure to antipsychotics or abrupt changes in dopaminergic therapy, as reduced dopamine signaling disrupts central thermoregulation, muscle control, and autonomic function; muscle breakdown may further increase complications. In pharmacology, NMS is an essential example of serious drug toxicity and requires rapid recognition, immediate discontinuation of the causative medication, intensive supportive care, and, when appropriate, treatments such as dantrolene or bromocriptine. Understanding its presentation supports safer prescribing and helps distinguish it from serotonin syndrome and other emergencies.

Handwriting analysis software significantly improves upon existing instruments measuring movement disorders. Individuals at risk for psychosis and healthy controls completed handwriting tasks to test for dyskinesia. Results suggest that youth at risk for psychosis exhibit dyskinesia and that handwriting analysis could significantly contribute to wider dissemination of early identification...

Transgenic lck:eGFP zebrafish express GFP highly in T lymphocytes, and have been used to study T cell development and acute lymphoblastic leukemia. This line can be used to study B cells, which express lck at lower levels. This protocol describes purification of malignant and non-malignant B cells from lck:eGFP zebrafish.

An EEG experimental protocol is designed to clarify the interplay between conscious and non-conscious representations of emotional faces in patients with Asperger's syndrome. The technique suggests that patients with Asperger's syndrome have deficits in non-conscious representation of emotional faces, but have comparable performance in conscious representation with healthy controls.

Here, we present a protocol for cell transplantation of zebrafish skeletal muscle and embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma (ERMS) into adult immune compromised rag2E450fs homozygous mutant zebrafish. This protocol allows for the efficient analysis of regeneration and malignant transformation of muscle cells.
