<p>Dr. Baojun (Bruce) Xu is a Full Professor in Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University United International College (UIC, a full English teaching college in China), a Zhuhai Scholar Distinguished Professor, a Program Director of Food Science and Technology Program, and an author of over 230 peer-reviewed papers. Dr. Xu received his PhD in Food Science from Chungnam National University, South Korea. He conducted postdoctoral research work in North Dakota State University (NDSU), Purdue University, and Gerald P. Murphy Cancer Foundation in the USA during 2005-2009. He did short-term visiting research in NDSU in 2012, and the University of Georgia in 2014, followed by visiting research during his sabbatical leave (7 months) in Pennsylvania State University in USA in 2016. Dr. Xu is serving as Editor-in-Chief of <em>Nutrition, Dietetics & Nutraceuticals</em>, Associate Editor-in-Chief of <em>Food Science and Human Wellness</em>, Associate Editor of <em>Food Research International</em>, Associate Editor of <em>Food Frontiers</em>, Co-Editor of <em>The Open Bioactive Compounds Journal</em>, and Guest Editor for special issues of <em>Antioxidants, International Journal of Molecular Sciences</em>, and <em>Molecules</em>, and is the Editorial Board member of around 10 international journals. He received an inaugural President’s Award for Research of UIC in 2016, the President’s Award for Service of UIC in 2020, and is listed in the world's top 2% scientists by Stanford University in 2021.</p>

Maninder Meenu
National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute
<p>Dr. Maninder Meenu is working as a MK Bhan Young Researcher Fellow at the National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute, Mohali, India. Previously, she served as a Research Assistant Professor at BNU-HKBU United International College, Zhuhai, Guangdong, China. She has also worked as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at Agriculture Research and Innovation, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, India. She also worked as a Lecturer at Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar, Punjab, India. Dr. Meenu has strong interest and experience in phytochemistry, analytical food chemistry, microbiology, food processing, food safety, and fermentation technology. She has published several research articles in various reputed journals. She has presented her research in several national and international conferences. She is also actively serving as a reviewer with various reputed SCI journals.</p>
Recently, the demand for safe and healthy food is increasing due to increased awareness of consumers towards issues and associated causes. In general, farmers and customers determine the quality of raw material and food products based on the visual inspection of a product. In addition, several chemical analyses are also performed to assess the quality of raw material and final products. These chemical methods require expensive chemicals, cause pollution, and involve extensive sample preparation that destroys valuable germplasm and high price food samples. Thus, progressive farmers and food industries are interested in the non-destructive quality determination of food.
To overcome these limitations, extensive research has been carried out to meet consumers and industries’ demand for non-destructive methods for quality evaluation of agri-produce. Several non-destructive techniques based on machine vision, optical and acoustic properties, hyperspectral imaging, thermal imaging, and soft X-ray imaging have been employed to determine the physical and chemical composition of food materials.
The objective of this methods collection is to share various methodologies employed for data collection and processing techniques used in these non-destructive techniques and promote global access to these available methods. The examples of methods to be submitted in this collection include, but are not limited to machine vision-based, optical, and acoustic properties, hyperspectral imaging, thermal imaging, soft X-ray imaging, and electronic nose-based methods. We trust this opportunity will encourage researchers to participate in a trans-disciplinary manner, towards the collection and dissemination of various non-destructive techniques employed to determine various quality parameters of food and agri-produce.
