Healthcare agencies provide healthcare services to people.
In the United States, voluntary agencies are often non-profit centers sponsored by donations, grants, or fundraisers.
An example of such an agency is Meals on Wheels, which provides food services for elderly and disabled people.
Other voluntary community services in which physicians and nurses render health screenings and educational programs include the American Heart Association and the American Lung Association.
They also have support groups that help patients adjust to their health problems. The members in these groups have similar issues and try to face and solve situations by sharing their experiences.
Nurses often provide information and refer patients or their families to these support groups. Here are several examples of support groups.
Alcoholics Anonymous helps members abstain from alcohol and remain sober by conducting meetings at accessible locations.
Cancer support groups aid cancer patients by conducting meetings at hospitals.
Reach to Recovery members visit women undergoing breast surgeries to educate them on exercise, prostheses, and clothing.
