Jiangao Zhao
Beihang University, Laboratory of Aerospace Servo Actuation and Transmission and Beihang University, Research Institute for Frontier Science
Dr. Jiangao Zhao received his BS degree in mechanical design manufacturing and its automation from Yanshan University in 2013. He received his PhD degree in mechatronic engineering from the School of Mechatronics and Automations at Beihang University in 2021. He is currently a researcher in the Laboratory of Aerospace Servo Actuation and Transmission at Beihang University. He is also a member in the Key Laboratory of High Temperature Structural Materials and Coating Technology. His main interests focus on design of the core hydraulic components of electro-hydrostatic actuator and the surface strengthening strategies of friction pairs. His related developments were funded by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the PR. China. He has published about 10 papers and holds 8 invention patents in related fields. He has also invented a high-performance hydraulic pump applied for electro-hydrostatic actuators.
The electro-hydrostatic actuator (EHA) is a promising self-contained power device that combines the advantages of both electric and hydraulic technologies. The modular design enables the EHAs to characterize as small size and high-power density compared with the traditional centralized hydraulic systems. Therefore, the EHAs have found their applications in a wide range of fields including aerospace, robotics, wind turbine, and railway transport. However, the applications of EHAs still face several technical challenges such as heating, efficiency, dynamic response, and lightweight, especially operating at high load pressures and rotational speeds for high-power density. This collection aims to report advanced technologies for solving the above challenges of the EHAs during their practical applications. These advanced technologies can be applied to both the EHA system and its key components, which may cover new system architectures, smart material, designing, and modeling methods, control strategies, additive manufacturing, etc. In addition, this collection welcomes recent advances in intelligent electro-hydrostatic actuators, such as prognostics and health management, intelligent sensors, edge computing, and digital twin.
