Leonardo Mancini

Leonardo Mancini

University of L’Aquila

Dr. Leonardo Mancini graduated in 2020 from the University of L’Aquila with an in vitro study on the effect of different protocols for platelet-rich fibrin production in periodontal regeneration. He is the author and co-author of several publications on impacted journals. He is currently finishing his PhD from the University of L’Aquila (Italy). He is the winner of an osteology scholarship from the University of Zurich (Switzerland). He is also working on several projects regarding biomaterials for bone and soft tissue regeneration. He is a member of the Italian Society of Periodontology and Implantology (SIDP), the international association of dental research (IADR), the European Association for osseointegration (EAO) and an active member of the Cochrane collaborations (Cochrane.org). Dr. Leonardo is a reviewer for several impacted journals as BMC Oral health, Dentistry Journal, Journal of Clinical Medicine, Materials and Journal of Personalized Medicine. Leonardo’s research currently is focused on soft tissue augmentation around implants with xenogeneic matrixes using volumetric analysis.

His research is currently focused on the soft tissue augmentation around implants with xenogeneic matrixes using volumetric analysis.

Collection Overview

Periodontitis and peri-implantitis are inflammatory conditions related to several factors inducing the resorption of the supporting tissues. Tooth loss, soft tissue remodeling, and bone resorption are the result of an inflammatory process. the prevalence of periodontitis has been estimated in a 27% of the global population. Therefore, as a valid alternative to edentulous sites and missing teeth, dental implants are usually the primary choice. In several conditions with a deficit of hard and soft tissues, dentists need to regenerate bone and gingiva in order to have the right volume and conditions for placing implants. Nevertheless, peri-implantitis is another common condition estimated in 20% of the global population. The sequelae are similar to periodontitis but with a more accentuated inflammatory pattern leading to bone loss and soft tissue inflammation.Hard and soft tissue regenerations are the techniques that aim to restore the damaged tissues around teeth and implants. Certainly, the anatomical structure is different, thus each situation requires a different approach. Each year several products, biomaterials and techniques are released on the market. Indeed, biomaterials as bone grafts and growth factors were introduced to increase the regenerative capability. Current approaches are based on less invasiveness and tailored approaches.

This collection wants to gather videos and abstracts regarding the present and future techniques, biomaterials and biological factors used in periodontology and implantology. Videos of in vitro procedures for testing biomaterials or techniques are also appreciated.
