Lung transplantation is a life-saving therapy for individuals with end-stage lung disease. Nevertheless, the demand for lung transplants surpasses the availability of donor organs. Ex vivo lung perfusion (EVLP) has emerged as a valuable tool to address this shortage. EVLP involves reconditioning the lung by simulating a physiological environment through perfusion and ventilation. To gather translational preclinical data, researchers have adopted various large and small animal models. These models include pigs, rats, and rejected human lungs. EVLP is a system that requires interdisciplinary approaches, fostering the creation of open, collaborative research networks. These networks aim to establish evidence-based pathways and gain further knowledge. Therefore, the goal of this Methods Collection is to enhance accessibility to existing methods by sharing standardized protocols for studying EVLP.
