<p>Dr. Chenxuan Wei is a clinical assistant professor in prosthodontics and director of the Pre-doctoral Implant Program at the University of Michigan, School of Dentistry. She completed her BDS at Jinan University, a PhD in Dental Materials &amp; Oral Biology at the University of Hong Kong, and an MS in Prosthodontics at the University of Michigan. Her research interests include the biomechanics and clinical applications of dental biomaterials, the integration of digital technology in dental education and clinical practice, and advanced oral appliance therapy for obstructive sleep apnea. Dr. Wei is actively involved in advancing digital dental education and implant research, currently leading funded projects on augmented reality interventions in predoctoral training.</p>

<p>Professor James Tsoi is an associate professor of dental materials science, assistant dean (Innovation), and director of the Global Hub for Future Dentistry at the Faculty of Dentistry, the University of Hong Kong. He obtained his BSc in Applied and Analytical Chemistry and his PhD in Dental Materials Science from the University of Hong Kong. His research focuses on dental materials, artificial intelligence (AI), digital dentistry, smart manufacturing, and 3D printing. With a strong commitment to integrating generative AI and CAD/CAM technologies into oral health rehabilitation, Prof. Tsoi has published more than 180 peer-reviewed articles and holds multiple patents advancing the fields of dental materials and digital dentistry.</p>

<p>Dr. Shengtao Yang is a dental technician and deputy director of the Department of Dental Technology at West China Hospital of Stomatology, Sichuan University. He obtained his master's degree in dental technology in 2022. From 2023 to 2024, he served as a Straumann Visiting Digital Prosthodontics Scholar at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. His research interests include digital implant dentistry and digital prosthodontics. He has published more than 20 peer-reviewed articles in journals such as <em>Clinical Oral Implants Research</em>, <em>Clinical Implant Dentistry and Related Research</em>, <em>The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry</em>, <em>Journal of Dentistry</em>, and <em>Journal of Prosthodontics</em>. Several of his articles have been recognized as among the most downloaded and most viewed articles in the <em>Journal of Prosthodontics</em>. He also serves as a reviewer for <em>The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry</em>, <em>Journal of Prosthodontics</em>, <em>Scientific Reports</em>, <em>BMC Oral Health</em>, and other dental journals.</p>

Collection Overview

The rapid evolution of digital dentistry, computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM), and artificial intelligence (AI) is fundamentally transforming clinical workflows and dental materials science. While these technologies offer unprecedented precision, efficiency, and diagnostic capabilities, there remains a critical need for standardized protocols and peer-reviewed visual demonstrations to bridge the gap between experimental research and clinical adoption. This Topical Collection aims to compile cutting-edge methodologies, clinical AI applications, and digital integration techniques, ranging from virtual patient generation and intraoral scanning calibrations to smart manufacturing and augmented reality in dental education. By providing robust visual and written protocols, this collection will help the research community and clinicians standardize digital workflows, minimize technical errors, and optimize patient outcomes in modern restorative and prosthodontic treatments. We welcome a broad range of manuscript types, including original research articles, review articles, method articles, and case reports, that focus on digital dentistry and the integration of artificial intelligence (AI).
