Ecog Lfp Analysis

ECoG LFP analysis is a method for examining low-frequency electrical signals recorded from electrodes placed on the cortical surface, linking population-level neural activity to behavior. These local field potentials primarily reflect synchronized synaptic and transmembrane currents, and researchers analyze them by filtering recordings, examining spectral power across frequencies, and aligning signal changes with behavioral events or task phases. In behavioral neuroscience, this approach helps identify neural signatures associated with sensory processing, movement, decision-making, and learning. It can reveal how cortical dynamics change across conditions and provides a bridge between large-scale brain activity and observable actions.

We present a method for collecting electrocorticographic signals for research purposes from humans who are undergoing invasive epilepsy monitoring. We show how to use the BCI2000 software platform for data collection, signal processing and stimulus presentation. Specifically, we demonstrate SIGFRIED, a BCI2000-based tool for real-time functional brain mapping.

A Simple Stimulatory Device for Evoking Point-like Tactile Stimuli: A Searchlight for LFP to Spike Transitions

2014

To elucidate the complex transition from Local Field Potentials (LFPs) to spikes a suitable stimulator for light mechanical peripheral stimuli was built. As an application, the spiking activities recorded from somatosensory cortex were analyzed by a multi-objective optimization strategy. The results demonstrated that the proposed stimulator was able to deliver tactile stimuli with millisecond and millimeter precisions.

This paper demonstrates the performance of acupuncture, epilepsy models, and the analysis of sleep in rodents. The acupuncture procedure and the identification of acupoints are described. Pilocarpine or pentylenetetrazol (PTZ) is used to induce epilepsy. Electrocorticogram (ECoG), electromyogram (EMG), brain temperature, and locomotor activity recordings are employed for sleep analysis.
