Eeg Power Spectrum

An EEG power spectrum is a quantitative representation of how electrical activity recorded from the brain is distributed across frequencies, helping researchers relate neural dynamics to behavior. It is calculated by decomposing an electroencephalographic signal into frequency components and estimating the power within ranges such as delta, theta, alpha, beta, and gamma, often across different behavioral conditions. Comparing spectral power during rest, movement, attention, sleep, or learning can reveal changes in brain-state regulation and neural processing. This method supports studies of perception, cognition, emotion, and motor control, while providing measurable features for investigating behavioral variation and neurological function.

Neuroimaging researchers typically consider the brain's response as the mean activity across repeated experimental trials and disregard signal variability over time as "noise". However, it is becoming clear that there is signal in that noise. This article describes the novel method of multiscale entropy for quantifying brain signal variability in the time domain.

Electro-encephalography (EEG)

2023

EEG is a non-invasive technique that can measure brain activity. The neural activity generates electrical signals that are recorded by EEG electrodes placed on the scalp. When an individual is engaged in performing a cognitive task, brain activity changes and these changes can be recorded on the EEG graph. Therefore, it is a powerful tool for cognitive scientist aiming to better understand the neural correlates associated with different aspects of cognition, which will ultimately help them...

Assessment of the EEG mu rhythm provides a unique methodology for examining brain activity and when combined with behaviorally based assays, can be a powerful tool for elucidating aspects of social cognition, such as imitation, in clinical populations.

The Electromagnetic Spectrum

The electromagnetic spectrum consists of all the types of electromagnetic radiation arranged according to their frequency and wavelength. Each of the various colors of visible light has specific frequencies and wavelengths associated with them, and you can see that visible light makes up only a small portion of the electromagnetic spectrum. Because the technologies developed to work in various parts of the electromagnetic spectrum are different, for reasons of convenience and historical...
