Facial Composite Construction

Facial composite construction is the forensic process of creating an image that represents a person’s face from a witness’s memory, helping investigators generate leads when no photograph or video is available. It works by guiding a witness to recall and select facial features, such as the eyes, nose, mouth, hair, and face shape, then combining those elements through specialized software or an artist’s drawing while allowing repeated revisions. In behavioral research, the method also illustrates how attention, memory, stress, and questioning influence facial recall, while its investigative value depends on careful interviewing and treating the composite as an investigative aid rather than definitive identification.

This applied experimental paradigm replicates circumstances by which an eyewitness to a real crime may create a holistic facial composite of the culprit from memory, and then attempt to identify the culprit from a video line-up containing the culprit or one in which he or she is not present.

The Effect of Construction and Demolition Waste Plastic Fractions on Wood-Polymer Composite Properties

2020

Secondary material streams have been shown to include potential raw materials for production. Presented here is a protocol in which CDW-plastic waste as a raw material is identified, followed by various processing steps (agglomeration, extrusion). As a result, a composite material was produced, and mechanical properties were analyzed.

Construction of a Composite Regenerative Peripheral Nerve Interface in a Rat Model of Nerve Injury

Source: Svientek, S. R., et al. Fabrication of the Composite Regenerative Peripheral Nerve Interface (C-RPNI) in the Adult Rat. J. Vis. Exp. (2020).This video demonstrates the surgical construction of a composite regenerative peripheral nerve interface (C-RPNI) in a rat model of peripheral nerve injury. The procedure involves attaching a transected peroneal nerve to a muscle graft and overlaying it with a dermal skin graft to promote nerve regeneration. Over time, motor and sensory neurons...

Experimental Implementation of a New Composite Fabrication Method: Exposing Bare Fibers on the Composite Surface by the Soft Layer Method

2017

A protocol to expose bare fibers on the composite surface by eliminating resin rich area is presented. The fibers are exposed during fabrication of the composites, not by the post surface treatment. The exposed carbon composites exhibit high electrical conductivity in the through-thickness direction and high mechanical property.
