Movement Abnormality Assessment

Movement abnormality assessment is the systematic evaluation of unusual, impaired, or altered motor behavior to identify changes in coordination, strength, balance, or activity. It combines structured observation with quantitative measures such as movement frequency, speed, range, posture, and response to controlled tasks, allowing normal variation to be distinguished from behavioral dysfunction. In behavioral research, these assessments help characterize motor effects of genetic changes, injury, disease, drugs, or environmental conditions. Consistent scoring and objective recording improve comparisons across subjects and can reveal how neural and physiological processes influence movement, supporting studies of neurological disorders, treatment responses, and functional recovery.

Abnormal Proliferation

2021

Under normal conditions, most adult cells remain in a non-proliferative state unless stimulated by internal or external factors to replace lost cells. Abnormal cell proliferation is a condition in which the cell's growth exceeds and is uncoordinated with normal cells. In such situations, cell division persists in the same excessive manner even after cessation of the stimuli, leading to persistent tumors. The tumor arises from the damaged cells that replicate to pass the damage to the daughter...

Cardiac Exam III: Abnormal Heart Sounds

Source: Suneel Dhand, MD, Attending Physician, Internal Medicine, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Having a fundamental understanding of normal heart sounds is the first step toward distinguishing the normal from the abnormal. Murmurs are sounds that represent turbulent and abnormal blood flow across a heart valve. They are caused either by stenosis (valve area too narrow) or regurgitation (backflow of blood across the valve) and are commonly heard as a "swishing" sound during auscultation.

Noninvasive Assessment of Cardiac Abnormalities in Experimental Autoimmune Myocarditis by Magnetic Resonance Microscopy Imaging in the Mouse

This study demonstrates the successful establishment of magnetic resonance microscopy imaging as a non-invasive tool to assess the cardiac abnormalities in mice affected with autoimmune myocarditis. The data indicate that the technique can be used to monitor the disease-progression in live animals.
