Video Editing Software

Video editing software consists of digital tools that organize, modify, and combine video, audio, images, and text into a coherent sequence, making complex visual information easier to analyze and communicate. It works by importing media files, arranging clips on a timeline, and applying operations such as trimming, cutting, synchronization, transitions, annotations, and controlled playback without altering the original recordings. In behavioral research, these capabilities support the review and coding of observed actions, comparison of events across sessions, and preparation of instructional or presentation materials. Careful editing can improve temporal accuracy, documentation, and interpretation while preserving important behavioral context.

2013

Locomotor activity (LMA) is a simple and easily performed measurement of behavior in mice. Coupling of video tracking software (VTS) and LMA allows for the improvement of specificity and sensitivity, especially when compared with the manual, line crossing method of LMA analysis. Additionally VTS allows long-term tracking of mouse LMA.

Genome Editing

2023

A well-established technique for modifying specific sequences in the genome is gene targeting by homologous recombination, but this method can be laborious and only works in certain organisms. Recent advances have led to the development of “genome editing”, which works by inducing double-strand breaks in DNA using engineered nuclease enzymes guided to target genomic sites by either proteins or RNAs that recognize specific sequences. When a cell attempts to repair this damage, mutations can be...

RNA Editing

2020

RNA editing is a post-transcriptional modification where a precursor mRNA (pre-mRNA) nucleotide sequence is changed by base insertion, deletion, or modification. The extent of RNA editing varies from a few hundred bases, in mitochondrial DNA of trypanosomes, to a just single base, in nuclear genes of mammals. Even a single base change in the pre-mRNA can convert a codon for one amino acid into the codon for another amino acid or a stop codon. This type of re-coding can significantly affect the...

Here, we present a protocol to investigate changes in the anxiety level of rodent animal models. The elevated plus maze (EPM) test, used together with a video tracking software, provides a reliable method to document the effect of various potential anxiolytic treatments in preclinical laboratory scenarios.

A Nonsequencing Approach for the Rapid Detection of RNA Editing

2022

Rapid detection and reliable quantification of RNA editing events at a genomic scale remain challenging and currently rely on direct RNA sequencing methods. The protocol described here uses microtemperature gradient gel electrophoresis (µTGGE) as a simple, quick, and portable method of detecting RNA editing.
