Glove Box Chromatography

Glove box chromatography is a technique for separating and purifying air-sensitive compounds while maintaining an oxygen- and moisture-controlled atmosphere. Inside a sealed glove box, an inert gas environment and purification system limit exposure to reactive gases as samples pass through a stationary phase, where differences in adsorption, partitioning, or molecular interactions produce separation. In biochemistry, this approach helps preserve oxygen-sensitive enzymes, cofactors, metal complexes, and other unstable biomolecules during purification and analysis. By combining chromatographic resolution with strict atmospheric control, it improves sample integrity and supports studies of redox chemistry, metalloenzymes, and anaerobic biological systems.

2025

The Edgeworth Box, introduced by Francis Edgeworth, is a graphical tool used to analyze the efficient allocation of resources between two entities, such as consumers or producers. It focuses on the distribution of two goods between two individuals within a controlled framework, offering insights into exchange efficiency and market equilibrium. The box's dimensions are determined by the total quantities of the two goods being analyzed. For instance, if two individuals, Jamie and Morgan, share 12...

Source: Lara Al Hariri and Ahmed Basabrain at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, MA, USA Column Chromatography of Food DyeExpand In this experiment, you'll use column chromatography to separate green food coloring into its component blue and yellow dyes, called erioglaucine and tartrazine. First, you'll use 95% ethanol to elute the dye with a weaker affinity for silica gel. Then, you'll flush the second dye from the column with water. To recover the purified dyes, you will collect each...

Please adjust quantities as needed. Before you get started, put on a lab coat, safety glasses, and nitrile gloves, and make sure that the lab has a labeled organic waste container. Prepare 5 mL of green food dye solution in ethanol. First, tare a clean empty 5-mL volumetric...

Black Box Model

2024

The Black Box Model of Consumer Behavior conceptualizes the decision-making process as a "black box" where inputs (stimuli) lead to outputs (responses) without fully revealing the internal cognitive processes. It emphasizes the mystery of the consumer's mind and focuses on observable external factors and responses. The model includes external stimuli (marketing efforts, social influences), the consumer's black box (psychological factors, perception, and attitudes), and the resulting behavioral...

Ion-Exchange Chromatography

Source: Laboratory of Dr. B. Jill Venton - University of Virginia Ion-exchange chromatography is a type of chromatography that separates analytes based on charge. A column is used that is filled with a charged stationary phase on a solid support, called an ion-exchange resin. Strong cation-exchange chromatography preferentially separates out cations by using a negatively-charged resin while strong anion-exchange chromatography preferentially selects out anions by using a positively-charged...
