Adipose Collagen Fragment

An adipose collagen fragment is a collagen-derived molecular segment released from the extracellular matrix of adipose tissue, where it can act as both a structural material and a biological signal. Proteolytic cleavage or controlled processing separates the fragment from intact collagen, altering its size, solubility, surface chemistry, and interactions with cells through matrix-binding and cell-adhesion pathways. In bioengineering, these fragments can be incorporated into hydrogels, coatings, or composite scaffolds to tune cell attachment, matrix remodeling, and tissue-specific responses. Their defined composition also supports studies of adipose tissue mechanics, regeneration, fibrosis, and engineered biomaterials.

2023

Collagen is another widely used biomaterial that has found popularity in commercial applications, such as photography. Collagen has more recently been used in tissue engineering applications, by creating hydrogels that provide structure to engineered tissue. This video introduces collagen as a biomaterial, demonstrates how it is harvested from porcine skin, and shows how the material is used to create a hydrogel for tissue engineering applications. Finally, several applications of the material...

Here, we present human adipose tissue enzyme-free micro-fragmentation using a closed system device. This new method allows the obtainment of sub-millimeter clusters of adipose tissue suitable for in vivo transplantation, in vitro culture, and further cell isolation and characterization.

Isolating Adipose-Derived Stem Cells from Murine Periaortic Adipose Tissue

2025

This video demonstrates a technique for isolating and culturing fluorescently labeled neural crest-derived adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) from murine periaortic arch adipose tissue. Following isolation, the NCADSCs are detected, sorted using fluorescence-activated cell sorting, and subsequently cultured on a plate, promoting cell proliferation.
