Doxorubicin Nanoparticles

Doxorubicin nanoparticles are engineered nanoscale drug-delivery systems that package or associate the anthracycline doxorubicin to improve how it is transported and released in the body. Their composition, particle size, surface chemistry, and drug-loading strategy influence stability, circulation, cellular uptake, and release; once delivered, doxorubicin can enter cells, intercalate into DNA, and disrupt topoisomerase II activity. In bioengineering, these systems support controlled delivery and may concentrate treatment in tumor tissue while limiting exposure to healthy organs, making them useful for studying targeted cancer therapy, therapeutic efficacy, pharmacokinetics, and drug-related toxicity.

Live-cell imaging is a powerful tool to visualize dynamic processes. The examination of fixed cells provides only static pictures, which can lead to misinterpretation and confusion about the process. This work presents a method to study uptake, drug release, and intracellular localization of liposomal nanoparticles in living cells.
