Fibroblast Seeding

Fibroblast seeding is the controlled placement of fibroblasts onto a culture surface or three-dimensional scaffold to establish a viable, organized cell population for bioengineering studies. The process typically involves preparing cells in suspension, applying a defined seeding density, and providing conditions that promote attachment, spreading, proliferation, and uniform distribution throughout the construct. Because fibroblasts produce extracellular matrix components, effective seeding helps shape scaffold remodeling and tissue-like development. This technique supports the evaluation of biomaterials, engineered tissue constructs, and cell-material interactions, while consistent cell distribution improves reproducibility and helps researchers assess cell viability, matrix deposition, and construct maturation.

Carcinoma-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) rich in myofibroblasts present within the tumour stroma, play a major role in driving tumour progression. We developed a coimplantation tumour xengraft model for experimentally generating CAFs from human mammary fibroblasts. The protocol describes how to establish CAF myofibroblasts that acquire an ability to promote tumourigenesis.

Seed Structure and Early Development of the Sporophyte

2020

Seed structures are composed of a protective seed coat surrounding a plant embryo, and a food store for the developing embryo. The embryo contains the precursor tissues for leaves, stem, and roots. The endosperm and cotyledons—seed leaves—act as the food reserves for the growing embryo. The embryo contains a double set of chromosomes, one set from each parent. Fertilization of the haploid egg by the haploid sperm gives rise to the zygote, which develops into the embryo. The endosperm is a...

Rapid Culturing of Primary Murine Melanocytes and Fibroblasts: Isolating Melanocytes and Fibroblasts from Whole Murine Skin Sample

2023

This video describes the rapid method to isolate and culture the melanocytes and fibroblast simultaneously from the postnatal mouse pup’s skin. These cells can be maintained and manipulated in vitro to study skin cell biology, wound healing, and melanoma.

Murine Dermal Fibroblast Isolation by FACS

Fibroblast behavior underlies a spectrum of clinical entities, but they remain poorly characterized, largely due to their inherent heterogeneity. Traditional fibroblast research relies upon in vitro manipulation, masking in vivo fibroblast behavior. We describe a FACS-based protocol for the isolation of mouse skin fibroblasts that does not require cell culture.

Introduction to Seed Plants

2026

Most plants are seed plants—characterized by seeds, pollen, and reduced gametophytes. Seed plants include gymnosperms and angiosperms. Gymnosperms—cycads, ginkgo biloba, gnetophytes, and conifers—typically form cones. The pollen cones contain male gametophytes. The ovulate cones contain female gametophytes and form exposed seeds when fertilized. Angiosperms, the most diverse and ubiquitous group of land plants, form flowers, and fruit. Like the cones of gymnosperms, the flowers and fruit of...
