Hfpef

HFpEF, or heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, is a clinical syndrome in which the heart pumps a normal proportion of blood but cannot fill efficiently, causing symptoms such as breathlessness and exercise intolerance. In many cases, impaired relaxation and increased stiffness of the ventricular muscle elevate filling pressures, while vascular dysfunction, inflammation, and metabolic disease can further limit cardiac performance. Bioengineering approaches use engineered cardiac tissues, organ-on-chip systems, imaging, biosensors, and computational models to investigate these interacting mechanisms, identify biomarkers, and evaluate potential therapies. These tools may improve disease stratification and support more precise treatment for a heterogeneous patient population.
