Achilles Tendon Attachment

Achilles tendon attachment is the specialized enthesis where the calf muscle tendon joins the calcaneus, or heel bone, enabling forces generated by the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles to move the foot. At this junction, tendon tissue transitions toward bone through a mechanically graded interface that helps distribute load and reduce stress during walking, running, and jumping. Studying this attachment clarifies how the ankle produces propulsion and why excessive or repeated loading can contribute to insertional Achilles tendinopathy and partial tears. Its structure and biomechanics inform diagnostic imaging, injury prevention, rehabilitation, and the development of treatments that restore tendon-to-bone function.

A Platelet-Rich Plasma Injection into the Sectioned Achilles Tendon of a Rat

2025

This video demonstrates a technique for injecting platelet-rich plasma (PRP) into the sectioned Achilles tendon of rats. A small segment is excised from the Achilles tendon of a recipient rat, the site is sutured, and the rat is allowed to recover. Concurrently, whole blood is collected from a donor rat and centrifuged to obtain PRP, which is then activated and injected into the sutured site of the recipient rat to induce tendon repair.

PET/CT With [68Ga]-NOTA-FAP-2286 for Imaging of Tendon Injuries in Rat Achilles Tendon Injury Models

Here, we present a protocol to utilize [68Ga]-NOTAFAP-2286 PET/CT imaging to exhibit high sensitivity in detecting and precisely localizing tendon injuries.

Ultrasound Tissue Characterization of Human Achilles Tendon by Stability Quantification of Echo Patterns

2025

Ultrasound is the approach most commonly adopted in the clinical setting for the assessment of the size and structure of the Achilles tendon. To expand the Achilles tendon assessment in a more comprehensive manner, the ultrasound tissue characterization (UTC) approach has recently been proposed and validated in clinical studies.

Effects of Allogeneic Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) on the Healing Process of Sectioned Achilles Tendons of Rats: A Methodological Description

This protocol describes the evaluation process of healing tendons in rats that have been injected with allogeneic platelet rich plasma (PRP) or saline solution after removing part of the Achilles tendon. The progress of tendon healing is evaluated at several time points using different types of analyses.

Murine Hind Limb Explant Model for Studying the Mechanobiology of Achilles Tendon Impingement
