Anterior Posterior

Anterior-posterior describes the front-to-back axis of an organism, a fundamental spatial framework for organizing anatomy and development. During embryogenesis, signaling gradients and region-specific gene activity, including Hox gene expression, establish positional information that distinguishes anterior structures from posterior ones and guides cell differentiation. This axis helps researchers interpret body plans, tissue organization, and developmental abnormalities across animals. Understanding anterior-posterior patterning supports studies of embryology, evolution, and regeneration, while experimental model organisms reveal how conserved molecular mechanisms generate diverse anatomical forms.
