Brood Comb Incubation

Brood comb incubation is the controlled maintenance of honey bee brood within wax cells as eggs, larvae, and pupae develop into adult bees. Nurse bees support this process through social thermoregulation, clustering around the comb and adjusting heat and humidity, while capped cells protect developing pupae from external conditions. In biology and apiculture, brood comb incubation helps researchers and beekeepers examine development, synchronize emerging workers, rear queens, and manage colony growth. It also provides a practical framework for studying brood diseases, reproductive biology, and how environmental conditions influence insect development and colony health.

Laboratory soil warming experiments usually employ two or more constant temperatures in multiple chambers. By presenting a sophisticated environmental chamber, we provide an accurate temperature control method to imitate the magnitude and amplitude of in situ soil temperature and improve the experimental design of soil incubation studies.

A General Method for Evaluating Incubation of Sucrose Craving in Rats

Responding for food or drug-paired cues increases over the course of a period of abstinence and this may relate to an increased susceptibility to relapse behaviors. Here we detail a procedure for evaluating this "incubation of craving" in rats that have self-administered sucrose.

A Technique for the Prolonged Incubation of Neuronal Tissue of the Retina

2025

This video demonstrates a method for prolonged incubation of neuronal tissue of the retina. Eyecups containing retina are obtained from a mouse eye; the inner limiting membrane (ILM) is enzymatically digested to expose the neuronal cells of the retina, and either the treated eyecup or the isolated retina is transferred to a specialized incubator for prolonged incubation at a low temperature.
