Cardiac Tissue Slices

Cardiac tissue slices are thin, living sections of heart muscle that preserve native tissue architecture, cellular interactions, and aspects of cardiac function ex vivo. Researchers prepare the slices from heart tissue and maintain them under controlled culture conditions, allowing cardiomyocytes, connective tissue, and vascular components to remain organized while experimental stimuli or compounds are applied. In biology, these preparations support studies of cardiac electrophysiology, contraction, metabolism, injury, and repair. They also provide a physiologically relevant platform for evaluating drug effects and disease mechanisms, bridging the gap between isolated cells and whole-animal or human heart studies.
