Cell-based Therapy

Cell-based therapy is a medical approach that uses living cells to repair damaged tissue, replace lost cell functions, or modify disease processes. Depending on the cell type and treatment design, administered cells may engraft and differentiate into functional tissue, release paracrine signals that support repair, or regulate immune responses. Applications include hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, tissue regeneration, and cancer immunotherapy using engineered or immune cells. Biology research examines cell sourcing, expansion, delivery, survival, and interactions with host tissues to improve treatment safety, durability, and effectiveness while advancing personalized regenerative medicine.

This manuscript describes the creation of defined engineered cardiac tissues using surface marker expression and cell sorting. The defined tissues can then be used in a multi-tissue bioreactor to investigate mechanisms of cardiac cell therapy in order to provide a functional, yet controlled, model system of the human heart.

Stem Cell Therapy for Tissue Regeneration

2023

Stem cell therapy is a method used in regenerative medicine to repair and restore function to damaged tissues and organs. Stem cells have the potential to proliferate and differentiate into various tissue types, making them ideal candidates for tissue regeneration. For example, hematopoietic stem cell transplants are commonly used in blood cancer treatment to replenish damaged bone marrow and restore healthy blood cells. Types of Stem Cells used in Stem Cell Therapy The two main cell types that...
