Cyclic Amp Dynamics

Cyclic AMP dynamics describe the time- and location-dependent changes in intracellular cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP), a second messenger that converts extracellular signals into cellular responses. Receptor activation regulates adenylyl cyclase, which produces cAMP from ATP, while phosphodiesterases degrade it; the resulting balance creates localized and transient signals that activate effectors such as protein kinase A and EPAC. In biology, analyzing cAMP dynamics helps explain hormone and neurotransmitter signaling, metabolism, gene regulation, and cell differentiation. Measuring changes in cAMP concentration and timing can reveal how signaling pathways encode information and how their disruption contributes to disease.

Cyclic Voltammetry (CV)

2023

Source: Laboratory of Dr. Kayla Green — Texas Christian University A Cyclic Voltammetry (CV) experiment involves the scan of a range of potential voltages while measuring current. In the CV experiment, the potential of an immersed, stationary electrode is scanned from a predetermined starting potential to a final value (called the switching potential) and then the reverse scan is obtained. This gives a 'cyclic' sweep of potentials and the current vs. potential curve derived from the data is...

Second-order Op Amp Circuits

2024

Implementing second-order low-pass filters in audio systems is crucial in refining audio signals by eliminating undesirable high-frequency noise. These filters typically involve second-order op-amp circuits configured as voltage followers, encompassing two nodes with distinct storage elements. The analysis of such circuits follows a systematic approach, similar to the second-order RLC circuits. In practical scenarios, bulky inductors are rarely employed due to their size and weight. This means...

Cascaded Op Amps

2026

Operational amplifiers (op-amps) are versatile electronic components that can be interconnected in a cascade - one after another in a linear sequence. This cascading is possible due to their infinite input resistance and zero output resistance, allowing them to maintain their input-output relationships even when connected in series. In a cascaded system, each op-amp is referred to as a stage. The output of one stage drives the input of the subsequent stage. As the input signal passes through...

Characteristics of Practical Op Amps

A difference amplifier, a crucial component in numerous electronic devices, ideally amplifies only the difference-mode signal, which is the difference between two input signals. However, in practical circuits, the output voltage depends on both the differential gain and the common-mode gain. The ratio of differential gain to the common-mode gain is defined as the common-mode rejection ratio (CMRR). This ratio quantifies the ability of operational amplifiers (op-amps) to reject common-mode...
