Degas Samples

Degas samples is the process of removing dissolved gases from biological solutions before analysis or experimental use. It commonly relies on reduced pressure, sonication, or sparging with an inert gas to release trapped oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide, while careful handling helps limit reabsorption and sample disturbance. In biology, degassing can reduce bubbles in fluidic systems, improve the consistency of pipetting and chromatography, and minimize gas-related interference in optical, electrochemical, and biochemical measurements. The procedure is therefore an important sample-preparation step when dissolved gases could alter reaction conditions, instrument performance, or experimental reproducibility.

Sampling Methods: Sample Types

2024

Sampling materials are classified into three main types: solid, liquid, and gas. Solid samples include a variety of substances, such as sediments from water bodies, soil, metals, and biological tissues. Two standard methods for extracting sediments from water bodies are grab sampling and piston coring. Grab sampling involves using a device to collect a discrete sediment sample from the bottom of a water body with minimal disturbance. Grab samples do not always represent the entire area due to...

Effective sampling is crucial for ensuring that research results are accurate and applicable. The process starts by identifying the target population, such as regular coffee shop visitors interested in trying new drinks. Clearly defining this group helps focus the study on gathering relevant data from the right people. The next step involves creating a sampling frame, which is a detailed and current list of everyone in the target group. An accurate sampling frame is essential to avoid missing...
