Dynamic Measurements

Dynamic measurements are quantitative observations that track how a biological variable changes over time, rather than recording a single endpoint. They capture temporal behavior by collecting repeated measurements under defined conditions and analyzing trajectories, rates, fluctuations, or responses to a stimulus; methods may include live-cell imaging, biosensors, physiological recording, or time-course sampling. In biology, this approach reveals processes such as signaling, growth, metabolism, movement, and adaptation that static measurements can miss. Dynamic data can identify transient states, test causal relationships, and improve models of biological systems, supporting research in cell biology, physiology, development, disease, and drug response.

2016

Dynamic measurement of chloride ions is presented. Transition time of an Ag/AgCl electrode, during a chronopotentiometric technique, can give the concentration of chloride ions in electrolyte. This method does not require a stable conventional reference electrode.

The goal of these experiments is to generate quantitative time-course data on the growth and gene expression dynamics of attenuated S. typhimurium bacterial colonies growing inside tumors. This video covers tumor cell preparation and implantation, bacteria preparation and injection, whole-animal luminescence imaging, tumor excision, and bacterial colony counting.

Measurement of Evoked Potassium Ion Concentration Dynamics in Coronal Hippocampal Slices

2025

The video demonstrates evoked potassium ion concentration dynamics on electrical stimulation of mouse coronal hippocampal brain slices. A bipolar stimulating electrode is inserted into the stratum radiatum of the CA3 region in the hippocampus, and a potassium-ion selective electrode is placed in the CA1 stratum radiatum. The electrical stimulation causes an action potential, resulting in potassium ion release. Finally, the lack of evoked potassium ion response in the presence of an inhibitory...
