Enriched Region Detection

Enriched region detection is a computational method for identifying genomic regions that contain unusually high levels of a biological signal relative to a background reference. It typically aligns sequencing reads to a genome, measures signal density across defined windows, and applies statistical models or thresholding to distinguish genuine enrichment from random variation and technical noise. In biology, this approach supports peak calling in ChIP-seq and ATAC-seq experiments, helping researchers locate transcription factor binding sites, histone modifications, accessible chromatin, and other regulatory features. The resulting maps clarify genome organization, gene regulation, cellular states, and molecular changes associated with development or disease.

All animal procedures described here must be conducted in accordance with institutional animal ethics guidelines and approved by IACUC. All procedures must follow the principles of the 3Rs—Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement—and must be performed by trained personnel. Environmental enrichment involves objects and practices that encourage natural behaviors, improve psychological well-being, and promote better welfare in laboratory rodents. Environmental enrichment should be tailored to the...

2015

Identifying proteins specifically associated with Bruch’s membrane in human eyes is an important step in understanding the biochemical mechanisms behind eye diseases such as age-related macular degeneration. This protocol describes how to enrich this sheet of extracellular matrix for down-stream biochemical analysis.

IR Frequency Region: Fingerprint Region

2024

IR spectra are divided into two main regions: the diagnostic region and the fingerprint region. The diagnostic region of the spectrum lies above 1500 cm−1. The absorptions resulting from single-bond vibrations of the N–H, C–H, and O–H stretch at higher wavenumbers and appear on the left side of the spectrum. The stretching absorptions of the C≡C and C≡N occur between 2100–2300 cm−1. In contrast, those arising from stretching absorptions of the C=O, C=N, and C=C occur between 1600–1850 cm−1. The...
