Esophageal Stromal Cells

Esophageal stromal cells are supportive connective-tissue cells that help organize and maintain the esophageal wall, making them essential for tissue structure, repair, and communication. These cells, including fibroblast-like and other mesenchymal populations, produce extracellular matrix components and release signaling molecules that influence epithelial cells, smooth muscle, blood vessels, and immune cells. Their responses change during injury, inflammation, and abnormal tissue remodeling, affecting healing and esophageal function. Studying esophageal stromal cells helps researchers investigate development, wound repair, fibrosis, and tumor progression, while providing cellular models for understanding interactions between the esophageal epithelium and its surrounding microenvironment.

2025

This video demonstrates a method for obtaining Schwann cell-like cells from multipotent bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs). Initially, the BMSCs undergo hypoxia treatment, followed by directed differentiation into neuronal progenitor cells. Subsequently, specific media and culture conditions are employed to induce the transformation of these progenitor cells into Schwann cell-like cells.
