Heart Visualization

Heart visualization is the imaging and representation of the heart’s anatomy and activity, allowing researchers and clinicians to examine how this vital organ is structured and functions. Techniques such as echocardiography use reflected sound waves to produce moving images, while magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography capture detailed views of cardiac tissues, chambers, and blood vessels. In biology, these approaches support the study of cardiac development, circulation, and disease by revealing changes in heart structure or motion. They also provide essential data for evaluating cardiovascular health, guiding research, and improving the assessment of conditions that affect cardiac function.

Source: Brown, A. O., et al. Visualization of Streptococcus pneumoniae within Cardiac Microlesions and Subsequent Cardiac Remodeling. J. Vis. Exp. (2015).This video demonstrates the microscopic visualization of bacterial microlesions in mouse heart tissue. The heart of a mouse infected with Streptococcus pneumoniae is harvested, washed, and fixed before being processed to obtain coronal sections. These sections are stained with hematoxylin and eosin and examined under a microscope to visualize...
