Hippocampal Tissue Isolation

Hippocampal tissue isolation is a laboratory technique used to separate the hippocampus from surrounding brain regions for anatomical, cellular, or molecular analysis. The procedure typically involves exposing the brain, identifying the hippocampus using its characteristic position and structure, carefully dissecting it from adjacent tissue, and preserving the sample in an appropriate medium or fixation solution. Isolated hippocampal tissue can support studies of neural development, synaptic plasticity, learning and memory, neurodegeneration, and epilepsy. Depending on the downstream application, researchers may use the tissue for histology, gene and protein analysis, electrophysiology, or preparation of primary neuronal cultures.
