Linea Aspera

The linea aspera is a prominent longitudinal ridge on the posterior surface of the femur that provides an important site for muscle and connective-tissue attachment. It consists of medial and lateral lips, which diverge near the proximal and distal ends of the bone and give attachment to muscles including the adductors, vastus medialis, and vastus lateralis, as well as intermuscular septa. In biology and anatomy, its structure helps explain how forces generated by the thigh muscles transfer to the femur during movement. Its landmarks also support identification of the femur, interpretation of muscle compartments, and assessment of clinically relevant fractures or surgical approaches.

Generating Rabbit Liver Carcinoma Model: A Surgical Procedure to Implant Tumor Tissue in Left Lobe of Liver for Induction of Hepatocellular Carcinoma

2025

In this video, we demonstrate the surgical implantation of tumor tissue into a rabbit liver to induce hepatocellular carcinoma. The procedure helps establish a reliable animal model to study tumor behavior and development of locoregional treatments targeting cancers of the liver.

Surgical Implantation of Temperature Telemetric Monitoring System in Mouse Model: A Surgical Procedure to Implant Temperature Telemetric Device to Measure Mouse Core Body Temperature

Source: Lutz, D., et al. Assessment of Ultrastructural Neuroplasticity Parameters After In Utero Transduction of the Developing Mouse Brain and Spinal Cord. J. Vis. Exp. (2019).This video demonstrates viral transduction via in-utero injection in mouse embryos. A pregnant mouse is prepared for the surgery, and a midline incision is made to expose the uterine horns. A mixture of a virus containing the desired gene and a tracking dye is injected into the embryos within the uterine sacs at the...

This manuscript describes methods associated with creation and repair of a ventral abdominal wall defect (hernia). This model can be used to study repair strategies such as those that use implanted materials. In this manuscript, repair of the experimental hernia with porcine small intestinal submucosa is presented as an example.

2025

This study describes a model of acute lung injury following visceral ischemia-reperfusion during supra-celiac aortic cross-clamping via laparotomy in rats. It enables the investigation of both the clinical and biological effects of aortic clamping as well as the impact of ischemia-reperfusion on underlying organs and remote lung injuries.
