Liver Tissue

Liver tissue is a specialized biological tissue that performs essential functions in metabolism, detoxification, nutrient storage, and blood processing. It is organized into lobules containing hepatocytes, sinusoids, bile ducts, and supporting cells; blood flows through the sinusoids, allowing hepatocytes to modify circulating substances, while bile moves through ducts in the opposite direction. This coordinated structure enables the liver to regulate glucose and lipid levels, synthesize plasma proteins, process medications, and remove waste products. Studying liver tissue helps researchers understand organ function, injury and regeneration, disease mechanisms, drug toxicity, and the development of tissue-engineered models.

The study of liver sinusoidal endothelial cells (SECs) must be performed with primary cells obtained from the animal as no cell lines exist. This method relies on liver digestion and differential centrifugation for SEC purification for subsequent culturing and experimentation.

Natural Killer Cell Isolation from Liver Tissue for Selective Expansion

2025

This video demonstrates the isolation of lymphocytes, including natural killer cells or NK cells, from human liver tissue for selective expansion. Enzymatic and mechanical digestion, followed by density gradient separation, promotes lymphocyte isolation, including NK cells. The collected lymphocytes can be further used for the selective expansion of NK cells.
