Minimum Intensity Projection

Minimum Intensity Projection is an image-rendering method that displays the lowest intensity value encountered along each viewing direction in a multidimensional dataset. For every pixel in the projected image, the algorithm examines a stack of corresponding voxels and selects the minimum value, emphasizing dark structures while suppressing brighter signals. In biology, this approach can reveal low-intensity features such as blood vessels, air-filled spaces, or labeled structures within volumetric microscopy and medical imaging data. By compressing three-dimensional information into a two-dimensional view, Minimum Intensity Projection supports visualization, structural analysis, and comparison of anatomical or cellular features across image volumes.

Fischer Projections

Learning to draw Fischer projections of molecules and understanding their relevance plays a crucial role in the visual depiction of organic molecules. A Fischer projection is a two-dimensional projection on a planar surface to simplify the three-dimensional wedge–dash representation of molecules. This is especially helpful in the case of molecules with multiple chiral centers that can be difficult to draw. Here, all the bonds of interest are represented as horizontal or vertical lines. While...

We suggest a Born normalized approach for Optical Projection Tomography (BnOPT) that accounts for the absorption properties of imaged samples to obtain accurate and quantitative fluorescence tomographic reconstructions. We use the proposed algorithm to reconstruct the fluorescence molecular probe distribution within small animal organs.

Different notations are used to represent the three-dimensional structure of molecules on two-dimensional surfaces. One of the most commonly used representations is the dash-wedge formula. The dashed wedges, solid wedges, and the plane lines indicate the groups situated behind the plane, coming out of the plane, and in the plane, respectively. The organic molecules rotate across the single bonds leading to numerous temporary three-dimensional structures of varying energy known as conformers.

Local Maximum and Minimum Values

In multivariable calculus, a function of two variables can exhibit local maximum or minimum values at certain points on its surface. A local maximum occurs when the function's value at a point is greater than at all nearby points, while a local minimum occurs when the function’s value is less than at all nearby locations. These points are referred to as local extrema and are of central importance in optimization problems.Local extrema are found at critical points, where the surface becomes...
