Mouse Oocyte Retrieval

Mouse oocyte retrieval is a laboratory technique used to collect immature or mature egg cells from female mice for reproductive and developmental research. Typically, hormonal stimulation promotes follicular development and ovulation, after which ovaries or oviducts are collected and follicles are punctured, or cumulus-oocyte complexes are flushed from the ampulla; the oocytes are then examined and maintained in culture. Retrieved oocytes support in vitro fertilization, embryo production, genetic manipulation, and studies of maturation, fertilization, and early embryogenesis. The method also provides a controlled system for investigating reproductive physiology, developmental abnormalities, and the effects of drugs or environmental exposures.

Mouse Oocyte Microinjection, Maturation and Ploidy Assessment

Oocytes are prone to aneuploidy due to errors in chromosome segregation during meiotic maturation. Aneuploid eggs can cause infertility, miscarriages or developmental disorders like Down syndrome. Here, we describe methods to introduce materials of choice into oocytes and methods to study meiotic maturation and assess ploidy.
