Myocarditis Endocarditis

Myocarditis and endocarditis are inflammatory diseases of the heart: myocarditis affects the cardiac muscle, whereas endocarditis involves the inner lining and often the valves. Myocarditis can arise when infection or an abnormal immune response injures cardiomyocytes, disrupting electrical signaling and weakening contraction; endocarditis commonly develops when microorganisms enter the bloodstream, attach to susceptible endocardial surfaces, and form inflammatory vegetations. Studying these conditions connects microbiology, immunology, and cardiovascular biology while clarifying how inflammation damages heart structure and function. Their investigation supports recognition of infectious and immune-mediated mechanisms, informs antimicrobial or anti-inflammatory treatment strategies, and helps identify complications such as heart failure, embolic events, and valve dysfunction.

2025

Endocarditis can present various clinical features depending on the causative organism and the patient's underlying health conditions. Initially, the clinical features of infective endocarditis develop gradually, presenting with nonspecific symptoms that can be easily mistaken for other illnesses.General SymptomsEarly symptoms of infective endocarditis are fever, chills, weakness, malaise, fatigue, and weight loss. These symptoms reflect the systemic nature of the infection and the body's...

Endocarditis I: Introduction

Introduction:Endocarditis is the infection of the endocardium, the inner lining of the heart and its valves. When the heart muscle is involved, the condition is termed myocarditis, while an infection of the outer lining is called pericarditis. Infective endocarditis (IE) primarily affects the endocardium, where pathogens adhere to the valves or lining, forming vegetation that can lead to severe complications. Infective endocarditis occurs when microorganisms, usually bacteria from other body...

This study demonstrates the successful establishment of magnetic resonance microscopy imaging as a non-invasive tool to assess the cardiac abnormalities in mice affected with autoimmune myocarditis. The data indicate that the technique can be used to monitor the disease-progression in live animals.
